Television can affect learning and school performance if it cuts into the time kids need for activities crucial to healthy mental and physical development. Most of children's free time, especially during the early formative years, should be spent in activities such as playing, reading, exploring nature, learning about music or participating in sports

get involved

It’s easy to feel like education is out of our hands. We try
to help our own children “get through” the system. We do our best to
encourage learning in our own classrooms or we try to integrate new
policies within our schools or boards. But somehow the big picture and
major decisions are someone else’s responsibility.

They’re not. Because what happens to our children affects us all.
Education is fundamental in building healthy communities, thriving
economies and strong societies. It is our best hope for addressing the
challenges that are facing our world today and it is something we need
to be doing better if we are going to meet the challenges of
tomorrow.

We all have the power to make change happen for our children and our
students and we all have the power to lobby decision makers to face the
kinds of systemic change needed to turn education around. We must raise
the volume on the conversation about education and change the popular
channel from short-sighted, back-to-basics reform to discussions about
informed and effective change.
